Zella Corder

Zella’s parents bought a ranch and moved the family to Idaho in 1965. Her interest in art and love of animals started at an early age and is still reflected in her art. Horse portraits and wildlife have been Zella’s favorite subjects, but landscapes and still life paintings are also available. She sells her art as giclées on stretched canvas.

I became an artist after studying Art History in college. The hook was set, however it took me 30 years to get started. Now a 60 year old, I've been painting for the past decade. I am an avid modern and post-modern enthusiast; my influences are Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Arshile Gorky and Jackson Pollock.

I never received formal instruction in painting, so I developed my own method of working in watercolor, creating works that look like photographs, occasionally adding oil pastel outlines to the subject matter. I have been selling work for over 10 years at Valentine for AIDS and worked as a painter for Karen Donleavy Designs. My work focuses on landmarks and architecture, particularly in Idaho.

I am an artist gathering the colors in life to maintain the flow of painted society. I mainly paint with acrylic on wood boards, the texture adds a jagged depth that gives a nice balance to flowing movements. As an artist in the community of Pocatello, I have participated in multiple art shows and will continue to do so. Painting is a way of life for me, so I'm always working on an new concept!
